Have you ever participated in a prompt meme on Dreamwidth, like a kink meme or ship fest? Did you know that AO3 prompt memes and AO3 kink memes are also a thing? 👀 Have you ever taken part in an AO3 prompt meme or AO3 kink meme and been overwhelmed by trying to… well, actually use it?
AO3’s interface for prompt / kink memes is difficult to utilize, especially for people searching for fun prompts or administrators trying to keep the data straight. AO3 runs into the same problem that Dreamwidth does in that there’s no easy way to search prompts: there could be 20 pages of prompts in a multi-fandom prompt / kink meme, and you can’t even sort by ship!
That certainly was the case in the past… before the AO3 Prompt Meme Skimmer was built! 🥳
What is the AO3 Prompt Meme / Kink Meme Skimmer?
This tool, created by myself and a friend, is a small click-to-run program that will skim a prompt meme and generate a spreadsheet with all of the AO3 prompt data in it, like the summary, the fandom, the URL, the ship… etcetera! If you’re an administrator of the meme, you can then host the spreadsheet on an external site so people can effectively browse the meme!
Need to search only prompts that are rated Teen? What about prompts for your OTP that don’t have any archive warnings for major character death? With the AO3 Prompt Meme / Kink Meme Skimmer, you can easily search the spreadsheet for that!
My hope in creating this was to help foster the adoption of AO3 as a more accessible way of hosting prompt memes and kink memes. This little app is simple and free to use, and you don’t even have to have Excel to use it. (The spreadsheet can be opened in any software that handles .csv files!) If you like it, tell your friends!
